I've been on board with that -- every time Couturier has been out over the last year, it reminds you that of all the good things they have in the system, a projectable center would be really nice to get

I'm a big fan of both Rubtsov and Vorobyov, but I'd like to get another high end center with higher offensive upside. After them there's a few centers in the system that will probably be wingers at the NHL level. I adore Rubtsov's game of strong skating and mental brilliance and high effort and underrated soft hands, but I'm not sure if his ceiling isn't Couturier-like...still more of a 2C. Vorobyov is another very smart, playmaking guy with maybe 3C potential. I think he will do good things at the WJC after seeing him a few times over the summer.

But I don't see a classic 1C out of that bunch, although stranger things have happened, and it could be argued Coots already is filling the role at ES and on the PK, if not PP, and it might be a sum of its parts thing. I'd just really like to get a blue chip top 6 center prospect.

Bad Goalie Steve Mason is looking like he's getting back on track

He's been playing real solid lately, still i hope Stollie gets another go at it today.

There were many professional scouts who dodnt see a 1C in Giroux when he was coming up. So its a crapshoot.

Great game last night, wonder who sits when Gudas comes back. I know they love his experience, but if it was up to me, it would be Streit. He's not playing terrible but the others are simply playing better.

Re the forward lines, I'm willing to give Schenn a long look center. The key is giving a quality playmaker on one wing and I guy who can both forecheck effectively and is solid defensively on the other. Perhaps something like:

Raffl-G-Simmonds
Konecny-Schenn-Lyubimov or Weise
Read-Coots-Jake
PEB or VdV-Cousins or PEB-Weise or Lyubimov

I think Rubtsov's game is still pretty underrated offensively. Not that he's a bona fide number 1 center, but I think he could be. I know Russ Cohen of Sportsology & NHL Radio's Prospects show think he has 1C potential.

Normally I'd agree, but with a longer than 24 hour turn around, I am not against going back to Mason. He's been playing great of late, and no harm in riding the bull moose. They have a nice little win streak and still have ground to make up.

Plus I think Nashville is a much more difficult test than Calgary was. Not that I'm saying they have to protect a kid to the point where he can only play against teams that are bad or beat to crap with injuries, but they have a good string going.

Ghost vs Provorov in terms of being a potential number one defenseman.

You're all seeing it before your eyes. Ghost's rookie season last year vs Provorov's season this year. Provorov you want on the ice as much as possible and in every situation. Provorov is steady in all three zone. With Ghost, I don't think anyone saw how poor he can be defensively. They just saw the offense and the racing up the ice with the puck with impressive speed.

It's sad to admit but Provorov is our best overall defense already, I don't believe this is speaking too soon at all. Play defense first and the offense will come on it's own.

I dont think most people, myself included, ever saw Ghost as a #1 all situations guy. I've said it before that Ghost, (if all the prospects work out, Morin, Sandheim, Provorov, Hagg etc), is a third pair guy who is the #1 option on PP1. There is nothing wrong with that and in fact it is a magnificent scenario for this team going forward.

Ghost was never projected as a #1 all situations defenseman. He was an offensive specialist who was never going to be dominant defensively.

I actually think Ghost has been better defensively than I expected. He gets out muscled a lot but his positioning is not bad and he makes good plays on the puck. Play away from and without the puck need work. Another 10 lbs of muscle wouldn't hurt either.

I wish they would trade Streit, IMO his defensive game is the weakest of the current group. I really hope Morin gets a chance at some point. Don't know if Streit has more value at the deadline..but I would have no complaints if he was gone tomorrow

Are you really trying to make the case that Coots is performing like a 1C?

Prior to this season you could make a compelling case that he was a 2c and after his start to this season that argument became way less stable.

The game isnt just based on CORSI stats at ES and prior to injury this season nothing was working for him.

Im 100% with you on getting a blue chip top 6 center prospect.

I dont think anyone ever viewed Ghost as a number 1 dman but multiple people have stated they see Provorov in that role eventually.

Watching NHL On the Fly and is there a more unfair play to defense then a deflection?

Quick turnaround I'd love it if they gave streit some extra rest. It will probably rotate but I think MDZ and streit should each spend time scratched with AMac
